Mission 44’s Nothing Happens In Isolation campaign aims to address the disproportionate exclusion rates among disadvantaged and minority students, an issue Sir Lewis Hamilton has personally spoken about since the release of the The Hamilton Commission.
Drawing from Lewis’ own experiences of overcoming adversity, Mission 44 aims to improve education, career opportunities, and social mobility for marginalised youth, with a focus on addressing systemic barriers and promoting inclusion and diversity.
This campaign builds on the work of Mission 44’s ‘Preventing Exclusions Fund’ which launched in 2022 in partnership with Sky, to address the disproportionate rate of school exclusions amongst Black and Gypsy, Roma & Traveller students.
The Preventing Exclusions Fund includes a number of initiatives aimed at tackling the issue. These initiatives include working with Multi Academy Trusts to reduce the disproportionate exclusion rates of Black and Gypsy, Roma, Traveller pupils across their school networks and scaling the impact of high potential initiatives that help prevent exclusions or improve trajectories for excluded students.
As someone who faced challenges in education, Lewis is committed to ensuring that every student has the support they need to stay in school, improving their chances for success in education and beyond.
Lewis sat down with Youth Advocate Jade, who has experience of exclusion, and Mission 44 Youth Advisory Board member Jaiden to discuss why building a more inclusive education system is so important to him.
“Exclusion nearly changed the whole trajectory of my life”
“Tackling social and emotional support programmes”
“I got expelled for something that I didn’t do”
“What does an education system that works for all people look like?”
